Combien que ton Magny ait la plume si bonne,
Si prendrais-je avec lui de tes vertus le soin,
Sachant que Dieu, qui n'a de nos présents besoin,
Demande les présents de plus d'une personne.

Je dirais ton beau nom, qui de lui-même sonne
Ton bruit parmi la France, en Itale, et plus loin :
Et dirais que Henri est lui-même témoin
Combien un Avanson avance sa couronne.

Je dirais ta bonté, ta justice et ta foi,
Et mille autres vertus qui reluisent en toi,
Dignes qu'un seul Ronsard les sacre à la Mémoire :

Mais sentant le souci qui me presse le dos,
Indigne je me sens de toucher à ton los.
Sachant que Dieu ne veut qu'on profane sa gloire.
