I CAN'T HELP

I can’t help
what you think
of me
it really is not
any
of
my
business

I can’t help
what you think
I said
Or did
Or didn’t say
Or didn’t do

I can’t help
if you ghost me
malign me
assume things
resume things
most important
presume everything

I can’t help
if you don’t answer my calls
ignore my calls
pretend we were never friends
just
pretend

I thought we were destined
had a connection
talked all the time
sometimes until 2 a.m.

I can’t help it
If you
stopped being you
to me

I can’t help
the conversations you have
In your head
about me
without me

But who I can help
is me

About this poem

Written in a short time after someone who I thought was a new "good" friend ghosted me. Even at my ripe 'ol age, being ghosted is hurtful.
