Where does your star lie?

I've been searching through the clouds.
Gazing upon the skies.
Peering through each constellation,
wondering where your star lies.

I've stumbled through each galaxy.
Tripped upon the moon.
Bewildered by this universe that has taken your star too soon.

I have seen your star shine.
I have witnessed it disappear.
But where your star lies,
still remains unclear.

Misplaced by the dark of space
Hoping your light will reappear.
Dumbfounded by the answer
I didn't realize was so near.

I've been searching through the clouds.
Gazing into my son's eyes.
Astonished  by my discovery.
I have found where your star lies.

This poem spoke to me as I lost my dog/best friend this month to bone cancer. The nights after we said our final goodbyes, I would lay on our back deck and look to the skies. I admit, I thought I saw some mysterious twinkle. But when I glanced back at that spot, it was gone. Almost as if he showed me that he is okay. But now, as the days go by, I feel as if he speaks to me through my sister's dogs. They show the same mannerisms that he did. They give more kisses like he did. Almost as if he trusted them to look out for me and to never let me feel alone. This poem portrays that story and it really called out to me.
