The truth doesn't always set you free

I wasn't born your child
But you were my dad
That wasn't the relationship
You wished we'd had
You said that you loved me
As more than a daughter
You showed me things
You really didn't oughta
You taught me things
I was too young to know
You made me believe
They were your job to show
As I grew older
I sensed it weren't right
But still I kept
My lips shut tight
Time after time
I pushed the memories away
But down in the box
They never would stay
Until one day the walls broke down
I could stay quiet no more
Then the guilt started, I'm so very sorry
That I didn't speak out before
The truth did come out
And it wasn't just me
I could've stopped you
But I just didn't see
The story goes on
You moved away
I guess that's why
We finally felt free
To tell our truths
And open our hearts
To trust in the law
Get the justice deserved
You admitted your guilt
And you did your time
Then you went back
To living your life
While we still hold
The memories and pain
Like a jack in the box
Popping up again and again
But I'm not a victim
I am a survivor
You're not my dad
And I am not your daughter
