My Life

My life was interrupted,
It was changed so quick,
The thought of it all,
It just makes me sick.
It felt like my heart was cut out with a knife,
I had my beautiful babies,
They were my life.
Now it's the simple things I am forced to miss,
No more going to the park,
or a good night's kiss,
No more playing tag,
or tying shoe laces,
Instead of all that,
all I have is the memory of their beautiful faces.
In an instant I was changed,
And now I will never be the same,
So please don't take your children for granted,
life is not a game.
Birthdays, Christmas, and Mother's Day too,
I sit, and I cry,
There's nothing else I can do.
I have lived a hell of a life,
Just to stay alive was an everyday fight,
I was even too scared to sleep at night,
I have been pushed, punched, stomped, and even shot,
Now tears in my eyes, a broken heart, and a bullet in my jaw is all i have got.
He calls himself their Daddy,
but he never tried to teach them right from wrong,
All while I am dreaming of tucking them in,
and singing them a song.
To be able to see them, touch them,
hold them, love them,,
I'm praying it won't be too late.
Dedicated to Madison, Thomas, and Madilynn Brown,
Mommy loves you, and I'll be waiting,
no matter how long it may take.

About this poem

I wrote this poem, because I was going through a very difficult, and painful time in my life, when i lost my three children to Child Protective Services after i was shot in the face by my children's dad.

I grew up in a very small town, and had a rather difficult childhood. Later at 16 I got into an abusive relationship, had three beautiful children, eventually after 11 yrs, my children's father shot me in the face. Given the circumstances I lost custody of my babies, and they were later adopted. its now been 11 years, and I impatiently wait for the day to be reunited with my babies, and eventually be able to become the mother i was suppose to be. more…
