Return to the Joy

Do you remember childhood wonders
That used to bring such joy?
Like Saturday morning cartoons
Or a technology-free amazing toy?
Those mini plastic dinosaurs
All neatly lined up in a row
Then Dad would suddenly shout “Let’s go for a drive!”
With no particular place to go
Those magical streets we would endlessly roam
Until exhausted dad would be
Then back to the apartment we fondly called home
If lucky, “I Love Lucy” we would see
Today I yearn for those simpler days
When toys would thrill and delight
When animated friends on that bulky TV
Were such a magical laughter-filled sight
Well you know there really is no reason
To pretend they’re a thing of the past
What brought you simple pleasures back then
Can still deliver a therapeutic blast!
So share your mornings with Daffy, Porky and Bugs
Watch “I Love Lucy” whenever you can
Buy a toy if you’d like for a child or yourself
Trust me, it’s a very well proven plan
Grab happiness with gusto and monumental verve
There’s truly nothing you need to fear
I certainly cannot pressure you to take my advice
I just want you to ponder and hear
That the treasures that brought you joy way back when
Are still out there shining vivid and clear
Return now and then to what brought you joy
To when life was a simpler time and place
My wish is for you to gaze into your mirror
And see a more peaceful and laughter filled face
