Lad Dig i Smerten selve Smerten sige,
Den er et Forsyns store Kjærlighed;
Og kaldte han forud den unge Pige
Før Moderen — hvad der er bedst, han veed.
Lad Troen være Dig din Jacobs-Stige;
I hendes Bortgang var det Dig, der led; -
En Engel har Du mere i Guds Rige,
En Stjerne mere lyser til Dig ned.
