The Lie That Wouldn't Quit

The rumor rose to heights I chose.
Destruction was my goal.
I pushed the boulder with my shoulder
And it began to roll.

In time I thought that I had brought
A lie that buried it.
And so, I tried with words I lied,
But lies don't always quit.

It gathered speed and did proceed
To crush the truth and I
Felt sadness grow.  I did not know
How heavy was the lie!
