Fisherman O' Fisherman

              Fisherman O' Fisherman
Sailing the high seas. Been so many
days out in the open seas.

Cast your nets on these high tides
beneath these waves. Deep in the
darkest depths. Tales of sea creatures
      and mermaids of the unknown.

      Battling hurricanes and cyclones.
Winds that whisper voices of heart-
      ache and despair.

              Fisherman O' Fisherman
       Eyes slightly close losing focus
blinded by swirling waters. Guided by
northern stars. Skin rugged and pruined
abused by so many rough nights. Trusting
your instincts. Hold your breath as
the waves crash against your ship.

The broken fingers and scars on your
hands you collected. Not being fazed by
the cold. Gazing up to the sky. You hold your
balance steady as you hear the wood creak.
Rocking back and forth feeling the motion
of the ship against the ocean.
                    Looking firm and secure.

                Fisherman O' Fisherman
Sliver fox streaks run down your beard.
Underneath your rain coat. Hair dripping
across your face. Been raining for so many
nights tasting the ocean sea on your lips.
Trying to steady the ship, fighting against
           the wheel. Putting away fears.

               Fisherman O' Fisherman
You hear the cage rattle banging against
the ship. Men that sacrfice so many restless
nights. Battling the high seas, hunger and
frigid cold temperatures. Frost bite on their
   faces fighting the Alaskan coast.

You stand holding a lantern. To give some
warmth against your face. To look away
Seeing the pain and determination of your
love for the sea. Tying off a sailor knot on
one of the ropes. To steady the sails that
   sway in the winds.

Feeling the wrath of Poseídon rage
beneath your ship. Throwing every trick he
knows. Looking at your compass to sail to
  new horizons.

                 Fisherman O' Fisherman
The Aurora Borealis stretches across the
disolant sky showing the way. Warms your
heart. Gives a bit of peace to your soul.
Reminding you of the wonders of ocean
  life. Never stop surprising.

Even though you face the eye of many
hurricanes. Peace is surely one step behind.
Navigating through the stars as they begin
to shine among the waves. A mirror image
of the sky reflects on the water. Making the
 heavens intwine as one.

                Fisherman O' Fisherman
Where the journey is never-ending. The
seas call out to you. Feeling the gentle
  breeze as the waves sub-side.

Hoist the nets that drip away the sea.
Covered in seaweed and crabfish. Hear
the cages swirve and dangle as they are
stored away. Lift the anchor and spread
your sails. Windchimes that chime in the
air as you walk back to your quarters.

Men start to dry off the rain and sweat
Start to sing and praise go down to the
galley to feast and drink booze.
and rum. Others sit or lay in the
baúl of the ship thinking of paradise and
 Snow covered mountains. Writing love
letters to their loved ones. The night has
 never been so perfect.

               FIsherman O' Fisherman.
You walk tired and heavy hearted.
Boots that pound echoe within the ship.
Reaching the door you take off your hat.
Sitting in your wooden chair. Finally to
        relax and be calm.

You pour some wine. Tilt your head and
blow out your lantern. Leave a trail behind
as you smoke your pipe. Hearing the sound
of the waves as they gently crash against
    your ship you drift away.

                Fisherman O' Fisherman
                   Brave soul you are...

About this poem

I wrote this one day when I was sitting in a bench at the end of a dock. Watching the ocean looking at the waves. Wandering about the ships that sail on the open waters. The stories they tell.
