Pump Er fer Ya Man?

Doug Blair 1951 (London)

Needed petrol.
Dad always called it petrol.
From his time in Britain/Scotland.
On a slight and dirty backroad.
Where’s a pump?
We see it
White and red sign
Painted brick station.
One guy, black man.
Feet up seated
Front porch. Cigar.
Slow stride over to us.
Athletic build, except for paunch.
Baseball township League.
Years gone by.

Hey Folks, how well
Is it happening?
How much, supreme?
Oh sorry, stick to da low grade.
I see.
Where you all  headed?
Windshield, oil stick?
We give you da woiks.
Ev’ry time
Caint understand why
So slow heah today?
Take care, mind.
State trooper prob’ly
Two mile up.
Waitin’ on speeders.
Got a deal here on Cokes.
Classic small bottles.
Nice and cold yaknow.
Buy some?
No big bills please.
