Adolescence

Adolescence doesn’t make any sense
Everything’s so extreme and intense
A wild ride
A crazy time
We don’t know what we want or who we are
And most of us feel rather subpar
It’s a time of change
When we start to act strange
We’re unsure, insecure, and inferior
Young and dumb and yet our lives are getting busier
Breaking out in zits
And getting driving permits
Pairing off
And getting jobs
Addicted to our phones
Exploring college student loans
Too concerned about what we wear
Although honestly nobody cares
Judgmental, detrimental, temperamental
Annoyed by anything parental
Naïve and somewhat innocent
And everything looks different
Awkward and emotional
And mostly unapproachable
Reexamining everything
Frequently experimenting
Anxious and depressed,
On top of all the stress
From lonely and isolated
To high and exhilarated
We’re immature to a certain degree,
But we need space and want to be free
Adolescence makes for odd behavior
And it surely has a unique flavor.
