Her Light

It was boxing day morning

When the light through my window shone my eyes awake

And the vivid dreams from yesterday

Worked wonders with my memory.

Father Christmas: Santa.

I’m sure I saw him, truly

In the eyes of my darling child

Those eyes which now are so much older than before.

Reindeer’s hooves and jingles,

Shimmered in my ears

Those ears which now hear bells ring

Whenever that she tells me.

And snow dropped down upon my tongue

As it fell to earth from heaven

The heaven I believe in

When she tells me that it’s real.

And when she tells me how she feels

The whole world is redundant

Her light shines everything away

As a sun on a horizon

And her happiness is all I need

And her sadness breaks my heart

And her tears are made of diamonds

And her smile is miles apart.

And she gets brighter every day

And every time I see her.

On Christmas and on Boxing day,

Her light might never leave her.
