VOLCANO

Jesus Betancourt 1955 (New York)

Dark gray smoke replaced clouds in the sky
Ash flakes came down just like charcoal snow
I felt like in any moment I might die
In just how long, I didn't know

I was just outside of Java
I'm sure I must be dreaming
In my nightmare I saw the glow of lava
Felt the scorching heat from it steaming

Earthquake started jerking
Knocking me to the ground
Rubbing my ash covered eyes, I was awakening
From a deep sleep, thankfully safe and sound
