Flags Above

The war was over but the occasional shot was heard in the distance.
My body atranced was heaving with dust and gunpowder.
We walked back with shuddering shoulders not quite believing what we'd been told.
The smell of blood urched from the hospital beds as we passed for a quick nurse check up.
Sighs of relief stared out of the eyes of each company.
I looked down at the dog tags I'd handed in to the relief office.
My letters were almost readable that day as hope of seeing a lost soul family was shattered once again.
Picking up a semblance of village life would be my next and last operation.
