The PLANTATION

About a while ago
A million days
A billion bullion sacks
A trillion tragedies

Civil rules enacted by evil rulers
If the fame is the same
Then the shame is the blame
At the coast of insanity

They boast in impunity
We! we roast in humanity
Their glamour and rumor, our honour and the humor
Echoes from our bowels from the carpets of incarceration

So feast we at the feet of utility
By the week to seek and stretch to fetch
Marrows for the foundation
Of the land of the brave

About this poem

This poem was written in 2005 as I reflect on the political class that has just emerged in Nigeria a few years earlier not being different from the immediate pass military regime. it chronicles the nature and character of political leadership in Nigeria.
