Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
Congressional politics.
Devoid of ethics.
Is the politics of crime.
A human illness.
And crime that goes unpunished.
Congressional politics.
Gone sadly adrift.
Merely for sake of egos.
And for pompous righteousness.
Egos gone amok.
holding Congressional floor.
Men, as ‘Donald Duck.’
quacking, just to make a score.
Ego is their bill.
Quacking, merely for false gain.
With such selfish will.
They mockingly feign to reign.
Birds of a feather.
They flit hither and thither.
Hindering justice.
And calling it a fair deal.
Such now is the game.
Of trivial politics.
Men who are spineless.
Ducking moral fortitude.
Ethics gone astray.
Politics is full of tricks.
Stooping to conquer.
With no moral fortitude.
These are such leaders.
That show no moral fiber.
Their only impetus.
Is to delay due process.
This is everywhere.
We find it in all nations.
Throughout the entire world.
Ruling, for sake of power.
Thus power corrupts.
It corrupts absolutely.
For sake of ego:
Congressional politics.
In all politics.
Both foreign and domestic.
Some have gone astray.
Whom others placed in office.
We need to fix this.
This, our human weakness.
Absolute power.
Corrupting absolutely.
With disdain for honesty.
People of high rank.
Ignoring their own office.
Allegiances sworn.
Yet they ignore their own laws.
Acts of common criminals.
Knowing right, they yet do wrong.
‘Rules for thee, not for me.’
Autocrats they are.
A dictatorship of rule.
Befitting of a true crime.
Crime and Punishment…
Dostoyevsky wrote of that.
Schismatic beings.
Choosing evil over good.
We are all Raskolnikovs.
We are all rascals.
Claiming to be something else.
Above our own laws.
We are therefore hypocrites.
Of our ‘hippocratic’ oaths.
Moral dilemmas.
Confront our human species.
Unscrupulous selves.
We are devilish pawnbrokers.
Making pacts with the Devil.
Congressional politics.
Devoid of ethics.
Is the politics of crime.
A human illness.
And crime that goes unpunished.
About this poem
The politics of crime is the crime of politics; a crime that goes unpunished. Congressional politics is often partisan in nature, with moral and ethical considerations often utterly disregarded by human societies.
