I've been writing since 1998. Well, actually I've been writing since kindergarten when that dried out, ole war hen forced a #2 pencil and cursive into my midst. Green eggs and ham indeed! Bah!!!

The Poet

The Poet

Lest he to sate its human trait,
Falls nigh upon the eyes --
The Poet cites a morning plight,
Invites the dawn to rise.

Parable is but withered dust
Should word evoke no feel --
The psalmist brings, as if the Spring,
A warmth...

I Shall Not Be Small (5 syllable meter)

When he was a boy,
Life was dramatic --
He learned to be small
Safe in the attic.

Invisible child,
As slight as his word,
Made to be silent,
A shadow unheard.

Talk was restricted,
Speaking forbidden --
He dared not a peep,
His...

Soldier

*Thank you to the brave men and women who serve.*

Redemption comes and goes for the broken,
A life we lived of wounds unspoken.
We’ve spilled our blood for another man’s glory.
Now we live to tell our story.

In the end what was it for?
We...

Our Friend Robin Loving

Dedicated to friend and fellow poet,
Robin Loving. Get well soon my friend.
We love you.

Our Friend Robin Loving

A sobering silence echoes the void
Of she who fell hard from grace --
How does love fill a love devoid
For she whom we...

Mortally Wounded: A Soldier's Tale

Mortally Wounded; A Soldier's Tale

He is bloody, fading and shattered,
Disabled, alone by himself --
His body's been brutally battered,
As the warrior gives up on himself.

He prays to die as a plea for new birth,
And cries, "Please, rid...

I haven't been right since I got COVID two years ago. Not sure what's been in me for the past year, but it's been the worst time of my life trying to recuperate. I'll get there or die trying. Until then I write on. Good to see you again, bud. Please feel better soon. :-)

Writing the rhyming stuff for contests gets me a bit rusty for this brand of poetry, so I try to keep the mind honed by tossing in the occasional smart poetry. I tire of writing Middle School, "Roses are red" poetry, so this shit keeps my mind on its toes and the mind sharp. I hope all has been well, buddy girl. I miss seeing you. Still on the mend here, so not quite myself yet but getting there. :-)

Such great injustice our men and women are faced with during times of war which seem to be an ongoing theme. Too many bad people profit from war while too many good people die. Such is the way of the world. Thank you for thinking of my words. It means a lot, friend. :-)

Thank you. It's nothing too deep or profound, but I thought it sufficed syllabically and theme-wise. I appreciate the read and comment. :-)

Nothing trumps love in a world overrun with hatred. It's the one bond that keeps this world intact and above ground. It's amazing that you're able to express yourself in such a beautiful and personal way. That, in and of itself, exemplifies love. to the core Thank you for allowing us to sense a part of you, LX. You rock.

Beautifully written piece that pertains to us all as per living and dying. I love the entire concept, and you worded it perfectly. Great piece, Kim. :-)

Even reading this today brings tears to my eyes. Such a medicinal outlet writing is but, as well, a heartbreak each time we recall those times as we pen them upon blank slate. I've always said that those left behind are the legacies of those who pass. Love is what binds us all. Thank you for taking the time to read what I felt was an overlooked piece, I say humbly.
