72 miles

My mother lives 72 miles away
Sadly, the drive is just too far to take
This is an endless journey, a destination unknown
35 years I've existed, and her love I have never known
I could tell you her life story,  how the streets and drugs took her from me
Or I could reminisce over prison letters she used to send me
Right now I have a letter of my own, if it ever reaches her, I'll never know
Dear Mama,
I need you in my life. You've thrown me away and it's not right.
All I've ever wanted was to be close to you. To have a bond like mothers and daughters do.
It breaks my heart that you won't even talk to me. How can you treat me this way when you are my Queen.
Do you know how many times I've cried for you and I still do. My heart is broken and your love is the glue.
You don't even know me, or the person that I am. I was hoping that we could be friends.
Mama, I would move mountains for you, I would give my life for you.
When will I ever be worthy of your love, when will I ever be enough.
Life is short, but we have time to spend.
I'll drive to you, I'll be there soon. It's only 72 miles, just let me in.
