Karl Constantine FOLKES

1935 (Portland)

Retired educator of Jamaican ancestry with a lifelong interest in composing poetry dealing particularly with the metaphysics of self-reflection; completed a dissertation in Children’s Literature in 1991 at New York University entitled: An Analysis of Wilhelm Grimm’s ‘Liebe Mili’ (translated into English as “Dear Mili”), Employing Von Franzian Methodological Processes of Analytical Psychology. The subject of the dissertation concerned the process of Individuation.

If poets, bereft of script or speech, pen, pencil or paper, quill or ink, silenced and mocked by those who pay them tribute, could otherwise convey what their silent thoughts expressed, their Chomsky-like ‘colorless green ideas [that] sleep furiously’ unexpressed expression would not only be syntactically correct, but would also be of great semantic relevance to the field of mathematical linguistics.   Mr. Karl C. Folkes, I'm curious why you don't enter your work. Although I'd love the opportunity to argue a few of your beliefs into a provable perspective, I will concede your mastery of the science of poetry is undoubtable. Have you tried clever humor? I just really want to vent about this site and the people who run the contest, it's a sham at best and degrades this art we were born with. more »
