Looks Can Be Deceiving

Melissa Sharr 1994 (Maryville Mo)

Looks can be deceiving,  this much is true.
For what we see on the surface, may not always be the truth.
A smile can hide a broken heart
A beautiful face may not always have a beautiful heart.

We often judge based on what we see
But sometimes there's more than what mets the eye
A person's appearance can be a mask
Hiding their struggles,  their pain, their past.

A mansion may seem grand full of wealth
But inside it may be emptier than a shelf
A person's possessions do not define
A depth of character,  the strength of their mind.

Looks can be deceiving  they can lead us astray
Building us to the reality making us sway
We must look beyond the surface beyond the facade
To truly understand to truly applaud

For a plain book may have the most beautiful story
A simple person may have the most extraordinary journey
A rough diamond may shine the brightest
A scared heart may love deeper

So let's not be fooled by what we see
For looks can be deceiving its not always what
It seems.
Let's peel back the layers uncover the truth.
Embrace the imperfections and see the beauty in you.
