Where We All Belong

Where We Truly Belong

if I write
another song
maybe it’ll stink
or so I might think

or maybe it’s just where I belong

a drunken fool
with an artist’s head
who could be cruel
or better off dead

but I’m still here
not in the clear
or even near

healing all my wounds

that so often I've bled
even with the lies I’ve said
I don’t honestly think
I'd be better off dead

but that’s just me
I guess we’ll see
the man I was
born to be

Lord please give me time
I know it’s a crime
to not have known
the real truth
about the true me
but now I believe

the truth shall set you free

so here I stand
before You Lord
confessing everything
I have done wrong

please believe in me
keep me strong
because near You

it's where I truly belong

About this poem

I was looking for an answer to the question of ‘do I write to get closer to God or do I get closer to God to write??’
