Thank You Note

Pen to paper the offering delivered

I start to wonder is this truly what I need to do

Have I misdirected my appreciation and overlooked  the true recipient of my gratitude

My focus turns to the untruth, a false sense of belief

They wished me well I relished in the accolades

But, something more propelled me forward on my life's journey

The realization that I had graced them with unearned power

To much time spent pleasing, not enough time growing

My desire for praise became a false sense of security

I became stagnant in my misconception of acceptance

I gave them the reigns and I became hollow

This powerful moment, the realization that through my own perseverance and grit I have arrived

I am happy to lay this pen to paper and say thanks for not believing in me

About this poem

This poem is about my journey to find my own self-worth. In my life so many people that I trusted and depended on had so little faith in me, they never believed that I could actually make my life a success. This is my thank you to all the doubters.
