Subhuman

Subhuman
By Abdullah Al Mamun

Like a monkey shackled by the neck,
I danced to your tune.
The leaves turned red before dropping dead.
I copped the winter and swallowed down.
My heart felt cold and numb.
A strange bird howled in the middle of the night.
I woke up to the sound of it
And breathed hard.
I stepped out of the door and followed my shadow
Like a zombie walking down the street.
I drowned and drowned until my lung ached.
You tossed me out into the desert
In the unforgiving sun.
Stripped to the bone
For all eternity I lied.
The Earth kisses the Sun and waves good bye.
Another day breaks.
And I soldier on.
