Bubble Bath

He said he’d take care of me
He said he would never leave
He said he drew a bath for me
Trying to be loving
I seek this bath
It looks like our past
Cold
Bitter
Stagnant
I ask myself, “What does this mean?”
He sees me standing
Staring at the still water
He says, “I did this for you”
I am grateful you did something for me
But it is not how I receive love
I told you when we met
Hot bubble bath gives you the key
“The key?”
The key to what we will be
You think this bath is enough
That I will love it
I feel like shit
Yes, a bath is a bath
Hot and cold are very different
Cold is heartless, sharp
Hot is loving, calming
You think a bath is a bath
There is nothing wrong  here
You get upset at me
You feel like you’ve disappointed me
You have
I won’t say it aloud
My reaction speaks enough
You still don’t understand
A bath isn’t just a bath
You tell me I’m ungrateful
And how dare I
Be so inconsiderate
Of this great cold bath
I should want to sit in it
No one will ever give me
A cold bath like this
So I sit here
In this cold bath
Shivering
Holding back tears
Dreaming of a hot bath
I know you don’t know how
To make a hot bubble bath
But that’s all I wanted
And I was the bad guy
Begging to be loved
Thank you for being cold enough
Where I could finally stand up
