The Art of Friendship

It was an unlikely friendship,
We knew it from the start.
The more we talked, the more we realized,
How very alike we are.

Mine a blooming passion.
Yours somewhat refined,
Both souls made of canvas,
Painted by the body and the mind.

There are those who see us,
And think this friendship shouldn’t be.
But, the paint, the clay, the pencils approve,
And they help those see.

For though they do not realize it,
Of each we are a part.
Our friendship created it,
We are each others art.

About this poem

I wrote this poem about my art teacher and mentor. She was not only a great teacher, but she has become a lifelong friend. We have been friends for 22 years and counting.
