Embellished Tales

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Embellished tales told to tell well,
Are guaranteed to be better remembered.
Than a truth heard spoken to disbelieve.
Done to accuse the speaker,
Of lieing.
And exaggerating a reality that includes,
Too much truth that prevents...
Denying delusion to fiction beliefs.

'Huh?
Do you know how crazy that sounds?'

'Everything was fine with us.
Until you came to join in.
With your version of truth to discuss it.'

'What are you talking about?
We were all there to see what I saw.
And no one objected,
To voice then...
Of having a different opinion.
No one said a single word.'

'That was then and this is now.
And we all agreed to decide,
That a reality to see it...
Needed more pizzazz.
With a little tweaking here and there,
To give it presence, awe and memory.'

'That ain't got nothing to do,
With what we witnessed to be true!
And saw.
With our eyes wide open.'

'Listen up 'halo bearer',
Tell us.
And...
Not from your point of view.
But...
From a view,
That has become more popular today.
Which insinuating delicious allegations...
Do you honestly believe,
People we hear quicker.
Anticipating more of it.
Like a pet dog awaiting for a treat.
With ears pressed up against a wall.
Caring less that they are lies heard,
Coming out of a box,
Being shakened to believe full of treats.
OR...
A truth told without added imagination.
And described,
In boring sleep inducing detail.
Until heads nod.
Listen up...
People want to be lied to and deceived.
As long as it is done,
Appropriately and delivered tastefully!'

'That's why the minds of people today,
Are lost and forever screwed up!'

'Do those who lie,
Cheat and deceive care?
It's about profits made and impressions.'

'But...
What about the wellbeing of humanity?'

'God?
I realize You may regard this,
As good material for a TV series.
However...
The ratings will plummet.
And advertisers will abandon the concept,
Immediately!'

'That depends on the cable provider.
And which channels are in the package.
You know?
The monthly subscription.'

'How did we end up like this?

'Tell me about it.
Every time my cable bill arrives,
It seems higher with each service I cut.'

'Senseless it is,
Attempting to try making sense of this!'

'Too many times I have tried and failed.
Even when the mood is strong.
And I am watching something,
That can't get any worse.
I keep saying to myself...
It will.
And it can get better!

Why are you staring at me like that?
Smiling.
As if ready to attack me like a wild wolf.
Then...
Moving to lock the front door.
Closing the window blinds.
And turning up the music loudly.
Is there something you want to express?
Or a message I have yet to get?'

'Let's play a game of charades.
I'll pretend I am angry.
And you pretend,
I have made you the victim of my anger!'
