Analysis of To Everyone I've Known
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
To everyone I've known, I say sorry
For the bitterness that has hurt you
My broken pieces matched your wounds
My pain echoed yours, it wasn't fair
Though I failed to love myself
My love for you stayed strong, for eternity
My presence was rife with inner turmoil, eternity
Piled high with shoes unspoken, which haunt me, I am sorry
To judge, to hate and to despise, lack of love for myself
Emanated to you, made you cry, cut wounds too
For this hurt, I ask for your forgiveness, because it wasn't fair
To carry all my pain, the shreds of the unhealed parts of me
I owe these words to all, that's true, everyone who has known me
For the shards of pain, for the shards of unhealed me
I hold no grudges against you, only love, for in turn, I too have been hurt
Love never fades, it's distinctly in me for eternity
I give my heart, my soul, my apologies, I hope it's fair
To reach out and let you know my uneasy thoughts, for myself
I understand why you stumbled, I truly do, for myself
I was too broken, too insecure, never did I trust the real me
Not for a second, a chance of recovery wasn't fair
And I'm left with unhealed wounds, I'm sorry
It's a burden that I carry, to every soul familiar with me
It'll linger, as a shadow, as a reflection, forever in eternity
The lack of love for me destroyed us, shattered us, left us for eternity
My inner beast, my fear, my toxic self, failed me, as well as you, sorry
I understand why you walked away, but my love for you pursued me
The wounds are deep, the bruises unseen, can't help but feel lost in myself
The unhealed parts of me, some days they are more than I can bear, unfair
I'll try to heal, to forgive, I need to be fair, to myself and for you
To everyone, I've known, I'm sorry for causing wounds.
My lack of love for myself was never fair to you.
The unhealed parts of me I'm still working on, for eternity.
