Sunrise

All of God was outside today,
at four o’clock in the morning.
My heart drummed and rocked
to the traveler's celestial clock.
Purple with night, yet full of light,
the sky was dyed blue and gold.
Heavens rolled.

The Milky Way smeared...

To An Artist

Art is the RNA of the divine.
Recalcitrant and no apologizer.
Tis born of human perseverance,
Impacted by human suffering,
Sought by Temple moneymakers,
The great grandchild of life and death.

Without art we never glance into the face

Bud

Bud
His grocery store was by the bay,
Bud the owner, watched the sunset every day.
Out the screen door and over the bay
Looking west in North Cape May.

I like the imagery of the poem and the idea of thinking one thing when a whole other reality exists. This poem is a story of an illusion, and a healthy understanding of the complexity of the human condition and the spaces we occupy in our minds and in real existence.

I see the order in this poem like a neatly plowed field. I feel the pain in this poem with the loss of a season's harvest. Still there is always hope.

I like this because Langston Hughes allows the reader to think a last line. This gesture includes the reader, giving thought to inclusion and relevance It also says Selma will not be forgotten.

Thank you for your vote. I appreciate it. I wrote it for all artists, writers, poets, musicians, dancers, painters, etc., who often struggle against the status quo to get their message out and we benefit as they increase our self-awareness.

This poem has rhythm and repetition. It tells a story of setting out on a difficult mission in a foreign land. There are obstacles and you can sense an earned success and a commitment from the writer. This sensibility is aided by the old language used. I appreciate that the more I read the poem, the more I like it.

I saw the painting in the words before I even knew to what the poem was referring. Excellent!

I love the beautiful imagery of a fleeting moment. It leads me to think about being present and paying attention.
