The Empty Chair

The Empty Chair

Against the farmhouse blasts the cold,
Frightful, icy, wintry cold;
While the family lifts a prayer,

A prayer around the empty chair,
A prayer for one not seated there,
Not seated in the empty chair.

Does the Nightingale Still Sing?

When storms unfurl the fury of their wind
And blast the trumpet of the thunderous cloud,
When bolts of lightning burn electric blend
And belt the earth beneath a blackened shroud,

I ask you, does the nightingale still sing?

I ask you, does...

A Poem or Two

They said I lack ambition
A career I should pursue.
And I, I sat...
And wrote a poem or two.

I like the imagery and structure of this poem. I thought it was very creative how you switched from ABAB to ABBA on the last stanza. By doing so, you really made that last stanza stand out. The last line really got me. "I'm deaf to all but speak to you." So good!!!

I love the imagery in this poem. So many good lines. I felt the story of Abraham and Isaac come alive. Great work!

It expressed how a simple cup can have such significance in a relationship. I liked how it ended with the author wanting to pour a second cup which symbolizes the desire to have the relationship continue on.
