They come from the South,
and now the North to.
Fleeing their countries
To the Red, White, and Blue.

The dream of America
pushes them on.
Their Socialist countries
did them wrong.

The immigrants come
anyway they can.
By boat, by car,

On a collision course,
Don't know why.
Thoughts of Nam
Make me cry.

Cast adrift
In a sea of the past.
PTSD has claimed me.
Lord, long at last.

Don't know where I'm going.
Only where I've been.
Memories of Nam
Keep reeling me in.

America...Stop!
You're coming apart at the seams.
Your people are dying.
Can't you hear their screams?

You help others abroad
In their desperate hours,
While ignoring your people,
Who hide and cower.

They hide from the bullets
Flying...

Time With Mom

I watched the two of them
Sitting on the couch.
Working a Jig-Saw puzzle,
Searching for the parts to a house.

Their gazes intent,
Glancing back and forth.
Mother and Daughter,
Searching for pieces
To contribute their worth.

Poor Ukraine

Saw the bodies
Just lumps on the ground
Destroyed buildings
Debris all around

The war is with us
As we watch safe in our homes
With no dying children
Mothers left alone

The images are graphic
The scenes surreal
As Ukrainians flee
