Win Her Mind First

Win Her Mind First

A woman’s heart is a constellation,
A cosmos of wonder and discovery
Not a piece of real estate to conquer,
Not claimed by wishes nor wandering hands
Words, woven like silk,
Whisper to her senses,
Stitching the air with...

Cold

Cold

Cold screams and shouts so loud
My skin feels its scalpel cut very deep.

Cold is natural but not body friendly
Flesh freezes easily the warm blooded.

Cold is the cosmic truth in the universe
Vast and dark it divides the warm light.

Poetry Is A Need

Poetry Is A Need

I am a lonely voice in plain sight
Shouting against the wind,
Sometimes crying in the breeze
I didn’t choose Poetry
Poetry chose me
In a modern world
Poetry is a luxury
For those with too much time
It is, sadly, very...

Poetry And A Pure Heart

Poetry And A Pure Heart

Prematurely arriving for a pen,
Poetry and a pure heart
I am smaller than your average
But my muscle within beats big
Not fast but I am quick
I see past paint and veneer
Inspired, I color verses in metaphor
Give...

You're My Greatest Treasure

You're My Greatest Treasure

Your life is a tapestry of troubles and triumphs
The lone precious gift of two souls
With desires to express and yearnings
To be understood and be whole.

Your time is not always your own I see
Demands by others ...

I was born in Spring and Winter has been a very uncomfortable time and sadly a subject I have written many poems about. I really don't like cold weather. Sure I can wear sweaters, almost have to but honestly I don't care for the cold. It feels like the opposite of life to me. Hope your dog got their bathroom trips in. I miss my dogs.

Thank you for your comments and observations! Yeah, I am fearing the impending cold temps and weather conditions about to ensue here in North Texas. I lived in Oregon for nearly 10 years and I hated the weather there. Inversions created by warm air trapping cold air underneath made for very frigid temps. I had to dig deep to create the feeling of icy air that captured the affect on me.

thank you for the compliment Susan. As I told the person before your comment, I am in a loss for words to express my gratitude is that anyone even bothers to read anything I write anymore. Critics, a lack of readers and people buying my books makes me feel as if I am a lonely voice, shouting against the wind, sometimes crying in the breeze.

words can hardly express how touch I am to read your comment. Without exaggeration or hyperbole I am at a loss for words, choked up and about to cry. Her name is Emily and we are engaged despite being very far apart physically. I don’t know how long it’s gonna be before we’re together. I only hope that our patience and love outlast the miles and time between us.

I can tell you the movie Blade Runner has been a favorite of mine since high school and the more I watch it including the new one with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, I have come to the conclusion that these are deeply relevant story to our time. It not only talks about the impermanence and fragility of life, but where artificial life and intelligence play their part in our world. The second Blade Runner movie actually comes full circle with someone completely unexpected. Without spoiling the ending, sometimes my poems are inspired by movies. I only know that this poem not only bears resemblance to my life right now, it carries with it a deeper relevance to a relationship I’m in. The theme of the movie bears a lot of impact on life. I had to think long and hard how it applies not only to life in general, but to a very special relationship I’m a part of. I can only hope and pray that direct communication and staying in touch means just as much to her as it does to me. Survival of our relationship depends on it. I would hate to think that moments including our relationship could be lost on account of little to no direct contact like tears in the rain.

I wanted to let you know this poem is about my fiancé as are so many of my love poems right now. I’m just over the moon that a beautiful, intelligent, caring woman who has so much in common with me is not only the inspiration for so many descriptions of her love for me, but also the impact she’s had on my life. I am praying I never run out of superlatives and metaphors to describe her love. I am truly grateful for her.

well I just read your comment and you really must’ve enjoyed reading this piece! Thank you so much and I’m blown away by your compliments. Pablo Neruda is not my favorite poet, but I consider him a big-time influence on my writing. His style and his subjects, as well as his descriptions and use of metaphor are things that I try to emulate. I really liked writing this piece because it’s actually about my fiancé. She’s very beautiful and inspires a lot of my poems now. Almost every one of my love poems that I write right now are about her and honestly, I feel very lucky.

thank you so much for the observations and you’re quite right. I really try to get into whatever subject I’m writing about. It just so happens my mom died on September 21, 2024 and honestly, I haven’t really had time to grieve because of so much interference and disruption by people who want me to pay up for something. It’s been a struggle, but I’m finally coming to terms with mom’s passing so these poems pop up every once in a while.

you know since Pablo Naruto is my favorite. I have read many of his poems obviously, and he has inspired me so much. I do my best to emulate his style, especially with the use of metaphor, simile, and alliteration. Neruda was very fond of certain subjects and in particular very common descriptions to his style. Like him, I found a lot to relate to in nature from everything like the sea the stars, as well as very sensual descriptions. I think I came pretty close to emulating not only his style, but the kind of things that he would’ve written about. I still emulate him to this day very closely.

Thank you, everyone for the compliments! How is everyone doing today? I must say that since my favorite poet is Pablo Neruda I make it a point to excel with metaphors!

This is a really nice poem and it reminds me of the wonder that a newborn brings us helping us to remember those things that are so simple yet important as well as they are fragile and temporary. You list some of my favorite poets, including my poetic father Pablo Neruda. I haven’t read William Blake in a long time. One of my favorite of the modern age just happens to be Leonard Cohen. I’m gonna have to come back to your page a little more often.

This is a really cool and interesting poem how it takes the aspects of modern communication on the Internet and sort of weaves this narrative of the connectivity or sometimes the disconnect that occurs with people. Your words make this a very compelling piece. I started to think about how I communicate with people and I realize that nothing is better than genuine. Direct contact in person with someone. This pace in a very sad way reminds me how I miss that and I take advantage of it every time it happens in real time in person.

wow I couldn’t have expressed it better myself! Yeah I really felt a hour well spent articulating the reality so many of us feel-the futility and diminishing physical and emotional fatigue we all feel. Only Pablo Neruda, my poetic father said it better in his poem “Walking Around.”
