My Dear Readers,
How many of you may recall or may have heard the radio broadcast version of these historic lines of the 1930s and 1940s concerning the fictional Shadow character, warning humanity of the elfish, selfish ways of the ego, which read as follows: “Who knows what evil
lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” This poem invites us as kindred spirits in the company of fellow poets and artists to always examine our human motivations.

Oh, thank you so much, rameshs.88917, for thoroughly capturing, and for your conveying the core message of the poem that asks humanity to attend to spiritual mindedness and attentiveness of the divine soul’s yearnings, instead of focusing on the outer images of the secular world which easily grab the attention of the ego and prey on greed, hatred, warfare, and pride, fomenting dissent, despair, and destruction among people and among nations.

What powerful metaphors of a nut in a shell of explosive bipolarity. The poem’s title perfectly encapsulates the message.

A painfully revealing poem. May I suggest you write a companion poem, this time directing its message directly as follows : “ To you overlords of this world…”

Oh Sue, thank you. I’m sure you and Florence are kindred spirits, always reaching out to elevate others, inspiring them to attain their highest potentials. There’s nothing small or inconsequential about such a gift.

Great amplification, yelkswah, of a ‘simple’ yet profoundly deep poem.

Thank you, Heyjude, for your contribution to these comments. This poem has been composed as an effort not so much to be critical of any personal, individual, party or cause; not so much to point out a mote or a beam in a nation’s eyes, but more so to inform us that all of us must serve as guardians of public trust whenever and wherever we sense and encounter the fault lines of government being made bare to the detriment of the higher and mor noble cause of Democracy.

Thank you, Symmetry 60. I equally treasure your extended comment as a voice of reason; the point being that public officials on both sides of the aisle must always be reminded that they are in the service of John Q. Public and therefore must be duly monitored in every course of action they take, be it for or against the will and better judgment of “We, the People.”

Thank you, kama77. Voices of reason everywhere in the word serve to unease the ill effects of social distemper.

Thank you kindly, rameshs.88917. One’s voice can, and should also serve its society as a monitoring agency.

Powerful ending, Jessica. The audacity to seek a world beyond our sight, beyond our everyday senses of perception, requires of us insight; what is referred to spiritually as discernment.

A thoughtful poem. In the eyes of the Beholder is ‘True Beauty’ truly defined. That’s why the proverbial saying that Love, as well as Lady Justice, is blind.
