The Beast Within

Life is humorous, but the joke is on mankind.

A being born of desperation,
rabid fever spread throughout a battered body,
mind fragile and sore,
this beast runs rampant,
freed upon the world by shattered psyche,
and the creature rages,
frenzied by a society which doesn't understand,
that in turn hates it,
piteous animal, alone and afraid,
how does humanity live with itself? -
as they chain this monster,
drag it away,
it howls in despair,
a cry which happens to be my own.
