Tear in her eye

I began writing Lyrics, short stories, and poetry some 43-years-ago. When I was in high school, during the 60s, I met the great Robert Frost. He spoke to me about my real elementary attempts at writing and poetry. He took some time with me, after assembly hall and told me to not stop writing. Now, …

O say can you imagine...
a drink of natural, mountain, spring water,
or following its small stream in your vision...
where it joins others, making a creek that flows
to a clear, glacial lake, above the clouds...mountain high?

Being there on the shore you'll be seeing the tracks...
of the grizzly, the cougar, the elk, the ram, the deer, and the beaver.
There you'll make your camp and footprints too...
as the Day Star slips below the horizon,
with your love close to you, you'll feel the beauty and sigh.

This is how it should be...
before, it used to nurse the spirit you see.
Now as jets scar the sky...
as wagon trains used to rip grooves across the plain;
can you see there in your vision the tear in Mother Earth's eye?

Mitakuye Oyasin! Aho!
