Pleasant Surprises

Professor, therapist, author and poet.

Gossip heard behind your back about how nice you are,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the scar.
Money found in last year's coat long written off as lost,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the cost.
Special glances from your love in moments of desire,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the ire.
Good news received in the mail relative to a win,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the sin.
Homemade cookies from a friend left in front of your door,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the chore.
Unexpected, "care" phone calls when you're feeling alone,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the groan.
Many hours on the clock before you have to rise,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the tries.
No lines at the market place at the time of a crush,
puts you on the inside-track and takes away the rush.
