You ask for words of meaning,
A glimpse into my soul...
A delicate tracery of thought
dropped into the pool of humanity;
creating small ripples.
Eventually gone.

You ask for simple songs of joy,
Chiming words of gladness...
A gentle echo of laughter
remembered and treasured by all who hear;
for a time.
Lovely but transient.

I hug the threadbare coat of age
around thin shoulders,
gazing into twilight's end...
Searching for familiar voices
and the small grey birds
nesting in my garden.
