On reading Maya Angelou
I've come to realize
Though diamonds
I would not eschew
It's the meeting place
I prize!
For oil wells
And mines of gold
I will not
Compromise
The child that suffered
Wrongs untold
Has grown up
Strong and wise!
Give condescension
No consent
Nor seek to
Patronise
Delighting in my own ascent
As like the sun
I RISE!
