Poems »

I am a school teacher from Trinidad and Tobago. The first of seven children. I am a mother of one and four grand children. I wrote my first calypso at the age of 11 to enter my school's calypso competition and have been writing ever since. The first published piece is "My Land".I was inspired to write "My Land" while living and teaching in London. When I was growing up my parents cultivated a piece of land that the family owns, I enjoyed agriculture and assisted with the gardening. Sometimes people from the neighbourhood will pass through the garden, as a short cut to where they were going and seedlings were sometimes destroyed. I did most of my creative work,or music sitting beneath the balata and mango trees or on the banks of the stream that passed through the land. When it was harvest time some of the produce were given to neighbours, friends and relatives and the majority taken to market to be sold. I reminisced... how far away from London is "My Land"!!. I continue to write when motivated and inspired. The Caribbean Sun, Where Writing Hides and In The Silence are written for a wide audience in mind. Enjoy!
