I am 32 as of two months ago I was diagnosed with my temporal epilepsy driven from a mutation in my brain from birth. In addition I learned that I shared this mutation and disease with my little girl who is now four years old and has been diagnosed with seizure activity from the time she was one and a half. I have calcific neuropathy, PCOS, PTSD, and a handful of other diseases. To my shock, I learned I am a walking statistic of the aftermath to sexual assault on a child. This knowledge has been hard to swallow and even more difficult to share as I come from a family who would like to take these horrible memories and wish them away that they never happened. This makes healing significantly harder. I decided that I am going to embark on this journey even if I do it alone because there are so many out there who unfortunately are also walking statistics without even knowing it. Everything in my been cringed when I learned the physical ramifications a tie to this type of abuse and how long it takes for them to come to light . After decades of being adamantly dismissed on a medical standpoint I read medical records that indicated my disease should’ve been noted so long ago. Somehow my medical issues continue to progress on Clock because the majority of my medical notes tied to a divorced single mother and father who was/possibly still is on drugs and in alcoholic. My father had zero activity in my life from the time I was three years old yet he was mentioned in multiple medical notes. As mentioned I am on a mission to bring awareness to an area that seems to be it’s own type of taboo and it is my hopes to share this poem around the world amongst others that have to do with specific medical struggles to help other people make sense or put into words what they are going through . The most empowering thing I have ever learned is I truly am not alone in this. Even more empowering, I have what it takes to be an advocate in an area that people don’t wanna advocate for. I share hard truths, but they’re true. My poems tie to very real stories
