“My name is Jeffrey Winner, and I am 2005 graduate from UNE with a Master of Science in Education. Since my graduation I have had the privilege of teaching Special Education in New York State for several years and for the last 16 years I have dedicated my life to working with individual with disabilities, mainly adults with traumatic brain injuries. Poetry to me has always been a personal release. Writing has always been a passion of mine that took form 10 years prior to my college studies and journey. In 1995 a close friend of mine Dana, who passed away in 2000, asked me to never stop writing. From that day I keep this promise of writing poetry, short stories, speeches, and letters to the editor of local newspapers, and even was featured in UNE’s Zephyr publication (5th Issue Spring 2004, 6th Edition Spring 2005). My work was also featured in an anthology of other poets and authors sold at Barnes and Noble titled, “The Norton Anthology of Poetry.” I feel that when I write, I honor Dana. I believe life is poetry in many forms and I am blessed to have been given a talent to write, publish, and be celebrated for the written word. I hope our world continues to promote poems and poetry for the young and old and we continue to celebrate April as National Poetry Month.”
