My Part

Melody Moreno-Vazquez 1960 (Ashland)

Shall I awake and find this all a dream?
Surely we cannot have been created for this kind of suffering.

We walk our walk on this rugged path we choose to take...
We walk unto our future Doom....
From our dream we do awake.

Is all the killing in this world
Just an effective form of population control?
Do we live out our lives without defining our roles?

Gay, straight is our sexuality  mastered?
Are you a child of parents or known as bastard?

In the craziness of the 'hood where we grow up...
Do we reject all the bad?
Or do we drink from it's  cup?

Are our sunsets colorful and the glory of God?
Or is it napalm  and firestorm and the result of jihad?

Onward and upward do we take ourselves to our goals...
But is it down and around where it is spoken of in the scrolls?

Is there good and light in the darkness we find ourselves  in?
Is there evil in the light when we are caught in our sin?

All of  the answers are we questioning....
All of the questions we have not answered in our awakening .

I will look to the colors to give me direction.....
And bask in the sunset and spend a moment in reflection.

It is neither in the light or the dark..
But in the shadows do I find my part.
