Just a fad

Growing up is just a fad, be it in vogue or not.

Dandelions grown and dandelions picked.
Dancehalls and boogie men.
Cowboys and Indians, an Elk with A-1.

To be born is quite a fuss, and a fuss I have made.
Every birthday on Christmas, a grand stocking awaits.

A precocious boy, a love so deep.
A little tiny, “Thank you, Emma” is all it ever takes.

Basketball and playgrounds, prayers for mom and dad.
Grandparents and gardens, a grill in the snow.

My precious child became a magnificent man -
one I must give to the world.

My heart is replete.   I will always have you both.
