A day like today you went on
to the next link of a mission.
With no human anchor to hold you
Free in spirit, free of human pain.
Mother, it is April 10 once more
a date that marked your last goodbye
and I feel you about and sob
for these tears do comfort
the loss of your hands touch
the ringing in your laughter
the true love mothers give.
And, though now an old man
forever a child I remain.
