Aleppo
Our Town of Aleppo is divided into squares
Some black, some white
Where the grand masters of our lives
Wage war both day and night
Our homes are chess pieces
Moved by barrel bombs
Our lives blown to pieces
But the game must go on
Today they sacrificed a knight
The best friend I ever had
In this cruel calculated fight
They took away my dad
It leaves just me and mama
Our lives are up to fate
At the hands of Putin and Obama
We long to hear “checkmate”
