Relations End
Greg Lanier 1962 (Atlanta, GA)
The sky is shrouded
My brain is clouded
The crowd stands in the rain.
Though every soul must bridge this chasm,
Each knows separate pain.
The sunlight heaves a dying blow
Against the lake wind’s overthrow
As I sit prostrate on this bench;
A flask my only sacrament.
Two lovers spied
Clutch side by side
With rapture in their gaze.
But those who’ve been there know as I
‘Tis only fleeting days.
Don’t kiss her, boy. Don’t fall in love.
For love is just a ploy.
And much too soon
‘Neath a lover’s moon
You’ll reap the pangs of joy.
My mind is seeing Charleston.
My eyes assure Green Bay.
I’m so alone.
