The Monolith

Greg Lanier 1962 (Atlanta, GA)

The monolith beckons
from the electric candle light,
filling my existence
with the reflections of a desperate man.

Who is to blame?
Anger, fear and desperation
encapsulate my soul with a vengeance!
The cutting edge of life,
That delicate, surgical instrument,
Quickens my being; rips at my mind;
And the anesthesiologist is having a drink with the surgeon’s wife.

Feelings that root in my make believe soul,
(to borrow a line from a game that I know)
See the court jester!!!!  A man in control.

The monolith, it does not lie.
It beams reflection clear.
Reflections of the man I am...

‘stead what I want to hear.
