I Got a Grin

Greg Lanier 1962 (Atlanta, GA)

I got dreams, but don’t believe ‘em.
I got visions, but can’t retrieve ‘em.
I got walls, they’re closin’ in.
I got ink, but lost my pen.
I got guns; can’t find the shells.
I got nostrils; hate the smells.
I got symphonies in my brain.
I got bonds, but lost the chains.
I got wine, but forgot the song.
I got strings that are shorter than long.
I got wishes; can’t see a star.
...destinations, but got no car.
I got fields, but spoiled the seed.
I got mansions, without the deed.
Some folks would say I should just pack it in.
But I got everything.....
I got a grin.
