Sleep

E.S. Conway 1985 (United Kingdom)

Gentle sleep, my long lost friend,
Why have you left me this night.
Why have you left me to wander alone,
Consumed in hatred and spite

Unable to function, impairing my thoughts,
Decaying my very foundations.
My slow decent into madnesses world,
Overwhelmed with angry frustrations.

With you by my side, I can conquer the world.
But not if you never come back.
A week it has been since sleep came around,
Come back my dear friend, come back.

This is also the reason for so much rhyming; though not necessary for poetry, it was part of what made poetry therapeutic for her and so is an almost certain constant. more…
