To My Daughters on Mother's Day

My grandchildren's mothers know not why
I sit nearby and suppress a sigh.
The littles evoke past memories
of too many missed opportunities .
Tickles and giggles
Songs about the old lady who swallowed a fly
Teaching them that Jesus loves them
I try to give now what I could not give then.
