Mending my Heart

Patricia Hale 1982 (Leavenworth, kansas)

You found a section of my fractured heart
The largest piece not yet fallen apart
You started to breathe love back inside
And the section of heart, it tried to hide

Trembling and shaking like a leaf
The last of the heart was scared to beat
Because this frightened it even more
The remainder of heart, it fell to the floor

It was terrified of being kept in pain
Love had destroyed it and love was to blame
The heart retreated when faced with you
It saw the damage that you could do

But patiently you sat every single day
And coaxed out the heart that ran away
And slowly you began to fix and repair
All the missing sections that weren't there

I'm greatful to you for the service you've done
It couldn't be fixed by just anyone
Now once again the heart is whole
All thanks to you and the love in your soul
